BAFTA Games: British Academy Games Awards Honors The Last of Us, GTA V, Tearaway, and Great Indies

British Academy Games Awards Honors The Last of Us, GTA V, Tearaway, and Great Indies

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts held its Game Awards show last night and awards went out to some of the year's best games - big and small. It was orchestrated like a proper awards show with red carpet and all and with no performances by the likes of Loiter Squad.

Fifteen awards were given away last night in London's Tobacco Dock. Naughty Dog's The Last of Us of course took in a whole lot of awards at the awards show, grabbing 5 BAFTAs out of their ten nominations.

Naughty Dog's The Last of Us won Best Action and Adventure, Audio Achievement, Best Game in 2014, Best Story, and Ashley Johnson (Ellie's voice actor) won Best Performer. Deserved accolades aside, The Last of Us wasn't the only game to receive attention at the show.

The British Academy Games Awards show also gave Tearaway awards for Artistic Achievement, Family, and Mobile & Handheld; Grand Theft Auto V won best Game Design, Multiplayer, and British Game, with RockStar Games accepting the BAFTA Fellowship award in recognition of their achievements in the medium. Hideo Kojima, creator of Metal Gear, attended the event and gave the award to Rockstar Games.

It wasn't all golden masks just for the big guys, though. Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons nabbed the best Game Innovation award; The Fullbright Company's Gone Home won an award for Debut Game in 2014; and Papers, Please won best Strategy and Simulation. Lastly, Bioshock Infinite won best Original Music and FIFA 14 won the Sports award.

The winners list can be found on the BAFTA site and a log of the show can be re-watched on the BAFTA Twitch channel.
