'Overwatch' Game Director Praises 'The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild'

The Nintendo Switch has become the darling of many game critics and game industry personalities since its launch a couple of weeks ago. Several reports have observed the flow of praises for the new Nintendo gaming system as well as compliments from company heads. In a recent Ask Me Anything (AMA) with "Overwatch" game director Jeff Kaplan, he reportedly loved the new console and lauded "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" as a "masterpiece".

According to sources, the game director was asked by fans about the other games he plays besides "Overwatch". Game Rant claims that Kaplan answered fans directly with "Breath of the Wild," which he apparently considers as amazing. It seems like Nintendo just got a very relevant endorsement from a well-known game industry personality. His praise for the game appears to coincide most of the positive reviews as the game sits on a 97 score on Metacritic.

It appears Jeff Kaplan is already part of those gamers who apparently love "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" for its open-world approach. The "Overwatch" game director also discussed a little about his experiences during his career in the games industry. He told fans in his AMA about how the team-based shooter got off the ground. He also detailed his experience with the six weeks crunch time for his team to come up with a new game to pitch to the studio.

He claims that they were able to get their inspirations from the artwork of Arnold Tsang. Kaplan mentioned that they credited their work to the "amazing characters" from the artist and great ideas from Geoff Goodman. They came up with a game that focused on class-based MMO approach, which eventually led to the team-based FPS concept fans enjoy.

Sources have reported that Jeff Kaplan also shared his memorable moments in game development. The "Overwatch" game director claims Blizzard Entertainment's "World of Warcraft" occupies a "special place" in his heart. Meanwhile, his positive endorsement for "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" adds to its critical acclaim. A report from Gamenguide also confirms that he shared some early concept ideas about Tracer during his AMA.
