‘The Witcher’ Sales In 2016 Is Mind-Blowing; GWENT Expansion, 1st Major Tournament, Beta Tests Anytime Now

"The Witcher" has sold over 25 million units at the end of 2016, and the figure does not even include the sales from its two expansion packs - "Blood and Wine" and "Hearts of Stone." "The Witcher's" GWENT Expansion Has Been Announced

"The Witcher's" GWENT expansion has been revealed by Adam Kicinski, President of CD Projekt. In a statement, Kicinski said that the game studio has emphasized the quality and limited range of products. Given the strong sales of the whole "The Witcher" series, Kicinski believes that it vindicates their approach and helped in the long-term appeal of the franchise.

For this year, "The Witcher" expansion is expected to continue, as CD Projekt declares 2017 as the year of GWENT. The studio also revealed organizing the first major tournament of the game, with a prize pool worth $100,000. In addition, another round of beta tests are also set to begin in spring, with the release date announcement in the second half of this year, WCCFTech reported.

"The Witcher" Book Author Does Not Get Royalties From Game Adaptation

"The Witcher" book author Andrzek Sapkowski, does not get royalties from the video game adaptations of his Polish novels that turned games. According to the creator, his love of fantasy as a genre has led him to create "The Witcher" world, further revealing that he does not make any profit since the one-time payment for the video games.

However, this is due to the fact there has been an old agreement between CD Projekt Red and the author. In fact, the game studio even offered Sapkowski a part of the profits of "The Witcher" but was declined by the author, IGN reported.
