Metro Last Light Next Gen Version Listed by Retailer for Xbox One, PS4 (Update: Confirmed by Developer)

Metro 2033 and Last Light Next Gen Versions Listed by Retailer

Update: Deep Silver has elected to comment on these rumors when they could have remained silent (and did so in a humorous fashion), which is commendable. This is what they said on the topic:

"Metro Redux. You may have heard of it...even though you probably shouldn't have! We could issue a 'We do not comment on rumour and speculation' statement and pretend this never happened. They're pretty boring to read. They're also pretty boring to write.

So we're going to comment on rumour and speculation instead. Is Metro Redux real? Yes. We never made any secret of 4A's desire to bring Metro to the latest generation of console hardware.

But what you saw leaked was taken from an old, internal planning presentation, containing some nuggets of truth but a lot of hypothetical ideas and place holder material. As you can see, we're not quite ready to reveal 4A Games' first next-gen console project, but we will be making an announcement this side of E3.

And we think the reality is a lot more exciting than the out-dated material that got leaked shows, and we're itching to share it with you. Just not yet."

Original Article:

Next gen versions of Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light were spotted on the website of an Italian game website, complete with box art and details. Those games are currently available on last-gen consoles and PC only, and there are no official announcement of any next-gen versions yet.

Despite that, the image above for PS4 and Xbox One versions of Metro 2033 and Metro Last Light (repackaged as Metro 2033 Redux) was first seen on Everyeye.it. It's unclear which retailer prematurely posted the advertisement originally, but the image says they are going to be available in July of this year.

The listing also includes information referring to some sort of 'day one DLC token', though of course we have no idea at this time what that would be. It also mentions a soundtrack, art cards, and limited edition packaging. Though the game is unannounced officially, 4A Games and Deep Silver (developer and publisher respectively of the last two games) are listed as the companies behind it.

Metro 2033 was released for Xbox 360 and PC in 2011 to generally positive reception. It was followed by Metro Last Light in May of last year for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC to a similar response. The games are set in a post-apocalyptic Moscow (mostly in the underground metro system) and feature shooter, stealth and survival-horror elements. The world is based on the book Metro 2033 and its sequels by Russian author Dmitry Glukhovsky, though the story of the games follow a different set of events than the book.
