PlayStation Plus is going to be pretty different once June rolls along.

"This June, we're bringing together PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now in an all-new PlayStation Plus subscription service that provides more choice to customers across three membership tiers globally," Jim Ryan, president and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, says in an announcement posted on the PlayStation website.

It should be noted that the rollout of the new PlayStation Plus will be done in phases. Per the announcement, the initial launch will involve certain markets located in Asia. It will be followed by markets in North America, then Europe, and finally, the rest of the world where the subscription service is available.

The announcement also lists some of the titles that the company is planning to include at launch. They are:

  • "Death Standing"
  • "God of War"
  • "Marvel's Spider-Man"
  • "Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales"
  • "Mortal Kombat 11"
  • "Returnal"

A report by IGN notes that "there is no plan for new first-party releases such as God of War: Ragnarok and Marvel's Wolverine to arrive the same day as they are officially released."

PlayStation Plus Tiers

As previously mentioned, PlayStation Plus will be offering three tiers: Essential, Extra, and Premium

Essential

Benefits of this tier include:

  • Cloud storage for saved games
  • Exclusive disconts
  • Online multiplayer access
  • Two downloadable games every month

This tier will cost subscribers $9.99 every month, $24.99 every quarter, or $59.99 every year. It should be noted that price for this tier is actually the same as the current PlayStation Plus fees.

Extra

For this tier, the benefits include all that are part of the Essential tier. What set this tier apart is the catalog of up to 400 PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 games. These games are downloadable for play.

The price of this tier are as follows:

  • $14.99 monthly
  • $39.99 quarterly
  • $99.99 yearly

Premium

The most expensive tier that the PlayStation Plus subscription service will have, Premium offers all the benefits of the first two tiers, along with up to 340 additional games that include PlayStation 3 titles that are available via cloud streaming.

The additional games likewise includes "a catalog of beloved classic games available in both streaming and download options from the original PlayStation, PS2 and PSP generations," according to the announcement from the company.

Aside from all those mentioned, subscribers belonging to this tier will also get limited-time game trials as well as cloud streaming access for original PlayStation, PS2, PSP and PS4 games that are found in the Essential and Extra tiers.

What Does This Mean for PlayStation Now?

As previously mentioned, PlayStation Now will transition into the new PlayStation Plus subscription service once it rolls out. This means, that it will no longer be available for gamers as a standalone service come June.

However, Sony assures those who are subscribed to PlayStation Now that they will be migrated over to PlayStation Plus Premium. There will be no increase to their current subscription fees once the new PlayStation Now is launched.
