Marvel Studios Release Road Map Could Have Future Movies Planned Until 2028

Marvel Could Have Movies Planned Up to 14 Years From Now

Marvel Studios has had a fantastic movie track record, a legacy that's sure to continue with tomorrow's launch of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. But just how far in advance does Marvel have things planned?

We already know about Winter Soldier and Guardians of the Galaxy this year. Avengers 2: Age of Ultron and Ant-Man will be coming out next year. There's also a couple of as-yet-unannounced movies coming out in 2016 and 2017, and Marvel Studios made news last year when they announced that they had a plan all the way up to 2021 for new films.

Well, it looks like the films might be planned even further beyond that. In a new feature on Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige, Bloomberg Businessweek uncovered an interesting tidbit: Marvel could have films planned all the way up through 2028. (Screen Rant gave a nice summary version here, since the Businessweek piece is definitely a long read).

"It's like looking through the Hubble telescope," Feige told Businessweek of the Marvel road map. "You go, 'What's happening back there? I can sort of see it.' They printed out a new one recently that went to 2028."

Bear in mind, it is 2014 right now. Marvel has been on a release schedule of about two movies per year lately. Two movies per year over 14 years means that there could potentially be 28 new Marvel movies between now and the end of 2028.

The feature also mentions that right before Marvel was purchased by Disney, Disney put a team of interns in a room with stacks upon stacks of Marvel comics to count how many characters existed in the Marvel universe. The results? Over 8,000. And with Marvel already tapping a relatively small comic property like Guardians of the Galaxy this year, it's not surprising that the studio has plans for movies all the way up to 14 years from now. There's certainly a lot of source material to draw from.

Definitely read the feature on Feige, because it's fantastic, and let us know which of your favorite Marvel characters you want on the big screen in the comments.
