Are you ready to be the very best that no one ever was? The Pokémon Company has announced that they will be holding a Pokémon Battle Master, a new competition in Japan that combines the Pokémon Trading Card Game (or Original Card Game as called in Japan) and the videogames. This will test the skills of Pokémon fans in both formats.

The Pokémon Battle Master circuit will only be held in Japan throughout April and June 2022. The company will be tallying the points of the players to see who among them will be invited to the final tournament.

Pokémon Battle Master Will Test Skills of Players Across Games

The videogame leg will run throughout June. Players will be using the Pokémon Sword and Shield Single Battle Format. Matches will be done online. Players must install the Pokémon HOME on their phones to enter the competition. They will also need an active personal Nintendo account.

Pokémon HOME is a cloud-based that allows players to transfer and store their Pokémon from the mainline and other entries of the series. This also allows them to trade Pokémon with other Home users.

For the Trading Card Game leg, players will have to compete in the different City League, and Trainers League events that will be held all over Japan. The TCG competitions will also be held in June. The more points a player earns, the more chances of making it to the finals.

After competing in all of the events, players will have to submit a form with all of their accomplishments and the total number of points they accumulated for both competitions. These will be tallied and will be validated by a qualifying body to see if the player is eligible for the final competition.

Will Pokémon Battle Master Expand Globally?

In the meantime, the Battle Master competition will be exclusively held in Japan. There are still no details as to whether or not this type of competition will expand globally. Expect more details from the Pokémon Battle Master competition organizers in the coming days. It is still highly likely that the competition could expand in other popular video game franchise formats such as Pokémon Go or Pokémon UNITE.

A slightly different Pokémon competition is being held annually. The Pokémon World Championships is also an invite-only competition, also organized by The Pokémon Company. It is held in August and holds games for players in various competitions such as the flagship video games, trading card games, and Pokkén and Pokémon Go tournaments.

This global competition began in 2004. For the 2022 iteration of the games, Pokémon Unite will also be included, making it the newest MOBA game to have an official esports tournament, similar to League of Legends.

Compared to the World Championships, the new Pokémon Battle Master in Japan seems to test the skills of players in both TCG and Video Game formats, as opposed to playing only in separate games.
