Minecraft Meets the Simpsons [VIDEO]

The Simpsons' Couch Gag Gets a Minecraft Mood

In its more than 540 episodes, the Simpson family has scurried home from their respective activities, forever winding up on the couch in a different way, usually as a lampoon of whatever's big in pop culture, be it Breaking Bad, anime, Game of Thrones, and about a hundred other different things in between. Even some good 'ol arcade games have been properly parodied, with Fox putting Whack-a-Mole, pinball, and crane games at dead center of the couch gag.

But last night, creator Matt Groening went for broke, and rendered the Simpsons' traditional intro in blocky Minecraft style, and why shouldn't he? The quintessential sandbox game is just about everywhere, with games on smartphones, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC, and versions headed to the PS4 and Xbox One.

The intro begins in the way it usually does, with the usual dramatic zoom in on the town of Springfield, but with the Simpson family inexplicably making their way across the town center and over a tire fire, before finaly settling in on their couch at home. A Moe looking creeper eventually blows the living room to smithereens, and the family along with it.

It was a surprisingly brief opener, owed to the fact that many of the traditional hallmarks that fans have come to know over the years were seemingly cut, like the character's respective adventures on their way home. Interesting, as fans had no problem recreating the entire sequence.

Even Minecraft creator Markus "Notch" Persson was puzzled at first, tweeting, "The Simpsons did a Minecraft couch gag. I'm not sure how I feel about it." He eventually came around, enjoying the sheer phenomenon that the game has become, tweeting, "I STILL feel a bit like it's just this small game I made at home. It's so weird to have all these things happen. <3"

You can see the intro below, just remember that South Park already did it.
