According to a report by DotESports, this latest patch is the first part of the planned rework for Moira. This is because she's been mostly forgotten during the current OW2 beta in favor of other support heroes. The rework itself might not be as extensive as, say, that of Orisa, but it still does enough to completely change her playstyle.

Here's what the Moira rework does:

Necrotic Orb

  • Replaces the Damage Biotic Orb. Has a separate 16-second cooldown.
  • The orb is a straight-moving, exploding projectile with a 3-meter radius upon impact with an enemy or the environment.
  • The orb can deal 40 impact damage and 10 explosion damage.
  • Enemies affected by explosio get "weakened," reducing all damage they deal (including Ultimates) by 75 percent for four seconds.

Biotic Orb

  • Healing capacity reduced to 250 from, 300
  • Cooldown increased to 10 seconds from 8.

Biotic Grasp

  • Self-healing decreased to 20 per second from 24

Fade

  • Cooldown increased to 7 seconds from 6.

As for changes to Mercy, all of them centered around her Guardian Angel Ultimate. Here they are:

  • Mercy no longer launches upward when she reaches her destination.
  • The ultimate now has a meter that fills up while it's active. If a player cancels it with the Jump button, Mercy will be launched into the direction she's facing at the time. The more charge she has, the more speed she'll have when she is launched upward.
  • Launch Mercy in the opposite direction by holding the backward input (i.e. S key or left stick down) and canceling Guardian Angel with Jump button.

Aside from the changes to Mercy and Moira, the Overwatch 2 patch also introduces a handful of bug fixes. If you want to see the entire patch notes, visit this link to PlayOverwatch.com.

What Do These Overwatch 2 Reworks Mean for The Long Run?

The aforementioned Overwatch 2 reworks for both Moira and Mercy are likely intended to serve the sequel's newly revamped gameplay. And their new abilities already make this evident.

Starting with the biggest changes in Moira's kit, she can now technically keep her team alive during extremely powerful ultimates like Genji's Dragonblade or even D.Va's Nuke with a well-placed Necrotic Orb. Here's a clip showing her surviving a DVa Nuke face-to-face, all because she used a Necrotic Orb on D.Va herself:

As for the Mercy changes, it will allow players to retain their vertical mobility out of harm's way, while also still staying in range of a Resurrect. Sure, she doesn't resurrect an entire team in one go anymore, but her Res ability is still pretty darn useful - especially during OW2 where it's not 5v5 instead of 6v6.

Overwatch 2 launches for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Stadia on October 4th.
