Riot Games' League of Legends will soon have a new champion that is unlike any other. Armed with his powerful paintbrush and a mind with limitless and devastating potential, Hwei is going to be introduced to the popular MOBA in Patch 13.24.

Art is Pain, Art is Suffering

Hwei is a new mage mid-laner that's coming to League of Legends next month. Unlike most champions in the game, he has about 10 abilities at his disposal. These abilities can be cast by mixing different spells schools known as "Subjects." Three different Subjects are available in Hwei's kit, namely Disaster (Q), Serenity (W), and Torment (E).

"Disaster" is a Subject that is focused primarily on dealing damage to enemies. Devastating Fire (QQ) prompts Hwei to cast a blazing fire that explodes in contact with the first enemy hit. Severing Bolt (QW) is a powerful lightning attack that isolates and immobilizes enemies based on their missing HP. Molten Fissure (QE) makes Hwei paint a fissure on the ground that erupts in lava, dealing damage over time and slowing enemies that are hit by the attack.

Things can get pretty wild in League of Legends. So, to help Hwei get out of tough situations, he can use spells from Subject: Serenity. Fleeting Current (WQ) allows Hwei to paint a water current in a straight line that grants a movement speed bonus to him and his allies. Pool of Reflection (WW) helps Hwei survive by painting a protective pool at a target location.

This pool provides shields that can soak up damage and protect Hwei from devastating attacks. Stirring Lights (WE), when cast, prompts Hwei to paint three swirling lights that follow him around for several seconds. These swirling lights empower his next three attacks or spells to deal bonus magic damage, as well as grant Hwei mana on hit.

Torment, as the name implies, is a Subject that is primarily focused on crowd control. Grim Visage (EQ) is a spell that makes Hwei launch a terrifying face that not only deals magic damage, but also causes his enemies to flee in terror. Gaze of the Abyss (EW) is great for locking foes in place. When used, Hwei paints an abyssal eye at the target location that grants vision and locks nearby enemies so that they cannot escape. If they do escape the eye's clutches, Hwei can utilize Crushing Maw (EE) to pull them toward the center, allowing his allies to deal the finishing blow.

Backstory

Hwei spent his early days in a temple situated on the Ionian Island of Koyehn, where he learned how to wield the power of artistic magic. He is a naturally gifted painter but his intense imagination has the potential to wreak havoc if left unchecked. For this reason, the temple masters told him to "rein in his abilities in favor of more traditional practices."

Then one day, Jhin went to the temple and disguised himself as someone who wanted to hone his craft. He became close with Hwei, so much so that he told the talented painter that he was the only one who understood his full capabilities.

However, the deranged serial killer attacked the temple and left Hwei devastated. Vowing to seek answers, Hwei goes on a quest to confront Jhin once again. However this time, their conversation might not be as friendly and civil as before.

Release Date

So, when will Hwei be available in League of Legends? According to Riot Games, the talented painter arrives on December 6 with the release of Patch 13.24.
