"Operation Deep Freeze" is now live on Rainbow Six Siege thanks to the recently deployed YS84 Update. This patch included a new Operator who is able to throw a grenade that can slow enemies and disable devices.

New Operator

Specialist Isaac Nunes Oliveira, aka "Tubarão," is the latest Operator to join the Defender's squad in Rainbow Six Siege. His loadout consists of the MPX submachine gun, an AR-15.50 assault rifle, the P226 MK25 handgun, a proximity alarm, and a nitro cell.

But, when the going gets tough, Tubarão can hurl his trusty Zono Canister to a designated location. When it explodes, it slows down all enemies nearby. Those who walk over the frozen path will leave footprints that help Tubarão and his team track them for the kill. And, the Zoto Canister can freeze enemy devices, disabling them for a brief period.

Enter the 'Lair'

Aside from the new Operator, the YS84 Update introduced a new map called the "Lair." This is where Deimos, a former Rainbow operative turned antagonist, conducted operations against his former group.

The Lair is a relatively large map that is specifically tailored for competitive play. This place has multiple points of entry, allowing players to employ unique strategies to beat their opponents.

This new map is now available in all of the playlists in Rainbow Six Siege, courtesy of Operation Deep Freeze.

No Time to Cook

The developers have made significant changes to Frag Grenades in Operation Deep Freeze. For the uninitiated, Frag Grenades are supposed to be just secondary gadgets that players can utilize to keep the enemy at bay. However, some crafty players were able to make great use of Frag Grenades, which prompted the devs to do something about them.

One of the biggest changes to Frag Grenades is that players are no longer able to "cook" them long enough to be effective. Cooking, in this context, refers to the act of holding onto the explosive for several seconds before throwing it in a certain direction.

Due to this adjustment, the developers are now able to comfortably add this explosive to other Operators, thus opening up new avenues for Osa, Blackbeard, Sens, Lion, and IQ.

Train with Minimal Pressure

The developers want the game to be accessible to as many players as possible. Hence, they've added a new playlist where newcomers and veterans alike can train in a low-stress environment.

The Versus AI playlist is currently in beta and is set in the "Clubhouse" map. Players have the freedom to go solo or form a squad with other people if they so desire. Players can select from six attackers, namely Sledge, Glaz, Thermite, Thatcher, IQ, and Recruit. The AI team is composed of five defenders, such as Kapkan, Valkyrie, Smoke, Bandit, and Mute.
