Red Hook Studios has released the first-ever DLC for its roguelike turn-based RPG Darkest Dungeon II. "The Binding Blade" introduces two new playable heroes to the game, namely the Duelist and Crusader.

New Playable Heroes

Darkest Dungeon II players can choose to add any of the two new playable heroes to their lineup. The Duelist is a versatile combatant with skills and abilities that are perfect for both offense and defense. This is largely due to the hero's "Stance" mechanics where she can change stances that will suit the situation.

She is able to provide support to her allies by wiping out their cooldown timers, allowing them to instantly re-cast their abilities without having to wait. She can also attack enemies regardless of position. So, whether they are situated at the back or the front, she can slay them with ruthless efficiency!

Those who have played the original game will certainly love the addition of the Crusader in The Binding Blade DLC. Unlike the Duelist who is a proficient assassin, the Crusader can take punishment and will not go down without a fight. He can heal his teammates when needed as well. Although his defensive and healing abilities make him a valuable asset to the team, enemies should cower in fear because he will not hesitate to use his righteous blade to eliminate them.

These new playable heroes come with their own signature items, unique trinkets, and fully-voiced backstories that will surely touch the hearts of Darkest Dungeon II players.

In addition, players will come across a new roaming mini-boss in the game at some point during their travels called "The Warlord." Perhaps this new challenge will encourage players to try the new playable heroes out.

The Binding Blade DLC is now available on Steam for $9.99.

Something for Everyone

While the new content introduced in The Binding Blade is indeed promising, the company did not let the owners of the base game down. That is because Red Hook Studios also offers stuff that every Darkest Dungeon II player can enjoy via a free update!

One of the highlights of this patch is the new military barricades that players will encounter during their playthroughs. According to the company, these are remnants of an invading military faction. Players might uncover the mystery of these barricades by just playing the game.

Moreover, Red Hook Studios implemented a myriad of quality-of-life improvements requested by the community. For one, items that are gained in combat will now appear in the post-combat rewards screen, allowing players to see what they've obtained during battle. On top of that, the unique items that can drop from enemies in the Sluice region have their drop rates increased from 10% to 20%.
