Princess Peach: Showtime! Mushroom Kingdom Royal Steps Into the Spotlight, Literally!

Princess Peach Steps Into the Spotlight in Nintendo's New Showtime! Game

Princess Peach: Showtime! Is finally out and the reviews are in for Nintendo's latest Mario-related spin-off which puts the Mushroom Kingdom royal into the spotlight, literally!

In this epic game, the blonde royal can become pretty much anything, from a superhero to a figure skater and even a detective. The constant variety and overwhelming originality of the stage in the game bring up the game's otherwise simple gameplay and inconsistent performance.

Princess Peach's first attempt at a spin-off and on her own in nearly two decades may not be a Game of the Year Award nominee but it is still a relatively fun investment. Prince Peach: Showtime! Takes place inside the Sparkle Theater, which is a must-see destination for thespians and theatergoers in the Mushroom Kingdom.

Other than the pair of Toads that follow Princess Peach around on her quickly-disrupted vacation, the game leaves everything else that is familiar about the world of Mario. It replaces Goombas, Koopas, and Shy Guys with the new antagonist Grape and her wicked Sour Bunch, according to IGN.

While the main enemies in Princess Peace: Showtime! and the Theet, which are friendly inhabitants of the Spark Theater, seem a bit generic, the game has a refreshing feel that focuses on adventure that is entirely removed from the main Mario series' trappings of Bowser kidnappings, flagpoles, and Super Mushrooms.

Nintendo has decided to give Princess Peach the keys to something that is entirely original in the same way that Luigi's Mansion gave the less popular Mario brother his own identity. The game commits itself to stage play look and feel.

Every single level that players take on leans into the idea that the entire adventure is taking place inside the theater. Princess Peach is always under a spotlight, which especially looks cool in levels that take place at night.

One of the core features of the game is that Princess Peach changes costume throughout her theater adventure. She has multiple clothes that dictate her unique abilities on various levels that require different things, said GameInformer.

The ninja costume is particularly of note because it gives Princess Peach more nimbleness as well as various stealth abilities. While some costumes feel similar, such as the dashing thief and the cowboy, they feel different enough due to the levels that they are used in.

One of the problems that many players have expressed concern with was Princess Peach: Showtime!'s performance consistency. The game sometimes hitches, which is an issue that has plagued the Nintendo Switch hardware and is becoming more and more frequent, which suggests that the handheld console is now struggling with newer titles.

When it comes to difficulty, Princess Peach: Showtime! was designed for kids and was built to be approachable for younger players. The game only has two main buttons, the first is to perform an action and the other one is for jumping. These are used alongside the analog stick to move around.

The difficulty of the game feels less important when taking into account the diversity of play throughout the adventure. Each stage is built around its partnered costume and ability and there are a total of 10 available. These are Cowgirl, Dashing Thief, Detective, Figure Skater, Kung Fu, Patisserie, Mermaid, Mighty, Ninja, and Swordfighter, according to Polygon.
