Bulwark: Falconeer Chronicles Brings Solo Dev's Dreams to Life Against Other City-Building Giants

Bulwark: Falconeer Chronicles is a city-building game that was created by solo developer Tomas Sala and released alongside other titles that are considered giants in the genre.

The open-world game brings Sala's dreams to life for a unique and innovative new city-building title that sets it apart from other similar games. Bulwark: Falconeer Chronicles is actually a part of the solo developer's trilogy of games and is the second of the franchise. The third game in the series is said to be under another wildly different genre.

Ahead of the game's release on Steam, Sala said that each game in the trilogy will tackle a completely different part of the city-building genre's world. The first game was The Falconeer which was released in 2020 and brought players into an open-world air combat game.

The third game in the franchise is codenamed Project: Ancient Waves, which seeks to take everything down to the human level, seemingly through some sort of naval adventure. The developer said that he liked the idea of the smallest roles and actors in a grand set of events, according to PCGamesN.

Sala said that he wants to put the spotlight on the people who do the jobs that run a society and tell their stories. He added that he is currently interested in how small acts of resistance can lead to much larger events in the world.

The developer's idea is certainly unique and ambitious and is one that the medium of video games is capable of pulling off. Sala's world will expand on the universe he has created but also tell stories at different scales.

Prior to his game's Steam launch, Sala said that he was preparing for his extremely unique take on city builders and strategy games. The official description of the newly launched title is "an open-world builder" that taps into the same spirit of resource gathering and expansion that is found in most other city-building games.

Bulwark: Falconeer Chronicles

However, the main difference is the mechanics as Bulwark: Falconeer Chronicles tasks players to effectively paint the connections between various resources and their outposts. The game does not make you spend resources directly in order to construct buildings but lets players sculpt out pathways between the hubs of your civilization, said GamesRadar.

Despite Sala's innovation, launching a unique game can be intimidating for anyone, particularly for a solo developer such as himself. He said that two days prior to the release of Bulwark: Falconeer Chronicles, he was trying not to fear the reviews. He said that the title is as original and innovative a game as he can make, noting that it is his life's work.

Two iconic Creators, Splattercatgaming and Wanderbots, recently played Bulwark: Falconeer Chronicles and seemingly put to rest Sala's fears. They praised the game's uniqueness, particularly with how the systems, controls, and resources supply chain work.

The game has players exploring the wildest reaches of the Ursee looking for resources and engaging with splintered factions. They can be allied with to ask for their aid or can be raided by players' warbands. The title also utilizes an intuitive, flexible camera mode and time-lapse replay feature so you can watch your unique creations come to life, according to Wired Productions.
