Expanding Paladin Choices

For players venturing forth as paladins in Baldur's Gate 3, the choice of subclass has always been a crucial decision. These subclasses not only determine the spells and abilities accessible as characters progress but also shape the moral compass and ethos guiding their actions throughout the game.

Now, with the introduction of three new paladin subclasses, players have even more options to tailor their characters to their preferred playstyle. Among these additions are two subclasses directly sourced from the venerable Dungeons & Dragons universe, offering solace to those who may have felt limited by the existing choices in the base game. However, the third subclass introduces an intriguing twist, drawing inspiration from the acclaimed fantasy RPG, Pillars of Eternity.

The New Oaths

The three new paladin oaths now available for players to explore are as follows:

  1. Oath of Redemption: Originally credited to user Celes, this oath embodies themes of forgiveness and mercy.
  2. Oath of Conquest: A familiar choice for seasoned Dungeons & Dragons players, this oath emphasizes dominance and control on the battlefield.
  3. Oath of Bleak Walkers: Drawing from the Pillars of Eternity universe, this unique subclass offers players an opportunity to embrace a darker path, diverging from the traditional paradigm of virtuous paladinhood.

While the new subclasses currently lack unique oathbreaking rules, the modding community is actively refining these additions to provide enhanced roleplaying opportunities and strategic diversity in combat scenarios. It's worth noting that breaking one's oath in-game can result in becoming an oathbreaker paladin, incurring a hefty penalty of 1,000 gold to reestablish one's commitment.

Beyond the realm of paladin subclasses, Baldur's Gate 3 continues to benefit from a vibrant modding scene. Recent endeavors have seen the introduction of over 50 new playable races, expanding the game's scope and catering to a diverse array of player preferences.
