Gears of War 5 Voice Actor Teases Potential Sequel Announcement From Developers

A voice actor for Gears of War 5 has teased a potential announcement by developer The Coalition regarding a possible sequel to the franchise.

The Gears of War series has largely remained dormant for half a decade as the last mainline game was released in 2019. But the tweet from Gears of War 5 voice actor Liam McIntyre gave fans some hope for a possible announcement coming in June this year.

After posting on X, formerly known as Twitter, McIntyre was asked by a fan regarding his character's fate in Gears of War 5. The voice actor then responded by saying, "I have no idea. I think @GearsofWar tells us all in June. :)"

Some fans have speculated that McIntyre having access to unannounced details suggests that he could be doing work for a new Gears of War game. It would also likely mean that JD Fenix from Gears of War 5 could be alive in some form unless he only appears in flashbacks, according to Kotaku.

The community is ideally hoping that future Gears of War games will let players choose who they want to survive at the start of the game and have one or the other show up.

This would be similar to how Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3 had either Kaidan Alenko or Ashley Williams continue to play a part in the story depending on what was done in the first game.

On top of McIntyre's tease, there have also been reports that pointed to a potential Gears of War 6 in development. They claimed that the next mainline game is part of Xbox's summer plans to rile up the gaming community.

A lot of rumors are pointing in the direction that there will be an announcement regarding the next game in the franchise sometime soon. Other plans for the IP include a Netflix-backed live-action movie and a potential remastered collection, said VG247.

Voice Actor Teases New Development

The situation comes as the Gears of War franchise has experienced its own ups and downs. The original trilogy was considered to be a masterpiece and players said that Gears of War 4 and Gears of War 5 were pretty solid but not as impressive.

The first game in the franchise was originally released in 2006 and featured cover-based shooting and amazing sound design, and gave players the satisfaction of tearing through Locust with the Lancer's chainsaw.

The Gears of War franchise is considered to be one of the all-time greats up to this day despite many other AAA games in the genre. In the latest mainline game, players were given a choice of saving either McIntyre's JD or their fellow COG Del Walker.

Gears of War 5 then kills off the one that players did not choose by having them fall victim to the Queen of the Swarm, Reyna Diaz. McIntyre's tease, on top of the fact that Microsoft will have an Xbox showcase in June, has fans hyped up.

Despite this, it is still not confirmed just what kind of news will be showcased later this year but fans are hoping for the next mainline game in the franchise, according to PCGamesN.
