Lost Legions Lets Players Build Their Own Roman Empire With Up To Three Other People

Lost Legions is an upcoming co-op survival game that lets players build their own Roman Empire with the help of up to three other people.

The trailer for the upcoming game suggests that it shares a lot of similar characteristics to other titles in the survival genre. However, Lost Legions sets itself apart with how it approaches its history and how it seems to add more to the mix.

Lost Legions promises that players becoming legionnaires lost in the wilderness will be core both to the fantasy of the game as well as its mechanics. You will have to defend yourself and survive and eventually form your own little century.

Players can later expand outwards and take over villages or build war camps, which turns that survival game into an action-role-playing title. Lost Legions also has a considerable depth to its world.

The developer, Tarock Interactive said that nothing inside the game will be as it seems as every single raider, barbarian, and soldier will have detailed backstories. When players dive into these stories, they get extra context to their adventures in Germany, according to PCGamesN.

Between the game's Germanic world and the layers that the developers plan to spread through it, Lost Legions could very well expand out of the crowded field and become a standout. The upcoming title doesn't yet have a definitive release window.

However, Tarock Interactive is planning for a schedule somewhere in the first half of next year and players who are eager to learn more can wishlist the game on Steam. The announcement trailer for Lost Legions opens with an unseen Roman Emperor screaming, "Give me back my legions!"

The game pitches the idea of raising a small army of AI-controlled Roman soldiers who are stuck behind enemy lines. The world of Lost Legions was inspired by the Teutoburg Forest in Germany and is set after what is known as the Varian Disaster.

Lost Legions' Historical Accuracy

This was where an alliance of tribes cornered and subsequently butchered three Roman legions using Roman military tactics. This was considered to be a humiliating end to a period of expansion under Emperor Augustus, said Rock Paper Shotgun.

The game has players taking control of one of the lost legionnaires whose grand objective is to restore Rome's honor. However, this is made difficult by barbarian tribes, ferocious beasts, and supernatural activities.

Lost Legions' Steam page writes that as players interact with the world around them, they will start to observe patterns behind everything there. The game's overarching plot is said to touch on topics of colonialism and imperialism.

The varied biomes of the game include frigid mountains and dense forests that force players to craft a variety of tools in order to survive. Tarock Interactive also claimed that Lost Legions will provide players with a "captivating narrative," according to IGN.

The company also touts the historical accuracy of the game thanks to its collaboration with several professional historians. The main objective of the game is to recover the three lost banners of the fallen Legions.
