Sheep Lass: Tower of Ragigund Secures $17K Kickstarter Funds After Indie Asks for Only $200

Sheep Lass: Tower of Ragigund is an indie game by solo developer Robin Poe that has successfully secured $17,000 in Kickstarter funds despite initially asking for only $200.

Poe's upcoming game was inspired by Zelda, Atari, and other indie titles such as Fear and Hunger. He said that unlike many of his contemporary Zelda-like adventure games, Sheep Lass: Tower of Ragigund is trying to emulate the look and feel of the NES classic.

The game's Kickstarter page suggests that it will most likely not have that deep of a story or feature complex control schemes. The developer said that when he said retro, he meant it, saying that players should expect challenging gameplay.

Poe also said that Sheep Lass: Tower of Ragigund will have players theory crafting the best route through the entire dungeon. The solo developer noted that he won't be pulling any punches.

He said that players will have to earn their victories, noting that Sheep Lass: Tower of Ragigund features one main dungeon. This will have players fight against a variety of enemies and he recommends using all critical items to survive, according to GamesRadar.

The plot of Sheep Lass: Tower of Ragigund follows the story of an evil sorcerer, Ragigund, who has been kidnapping knights and mages as part of some secret terrible plot. The player has a friend, named Artegal, who set out in order to foil the enemy's plan but they have not been heard from since.

Now, it is up to Bianca the Ewe to journey through the grand dungeon and put an end to Ragigund's evil scheme once and for all. The solo developer initially asked for only $200 so that he could create the game in a month, which was a surprisingly small amount of money.

He said that this was because the game was a "small side project I expect to finish in a month" and was a trial run to see how he would handle making a Kickstarter-backed game. The current goal for the Kickstarter is for the game to launch on Steam at some point in May 2024.

Despite the conservative Kickstarter campaign, a lot of players seemed to love the concept and the funding was able to breeze through $17,000 in under two weeks since it was launched on Apr. 12, 2024, said Yahoo Tech.

Poe said that he never expected to receive this level of support for his indie game, adding that everyone at team sheep, including him, was extremely grateful. The whole situation is nothing short of fantastic, especially for someone who describes himself as "just a passionate college dropout chasing a dream."

Sheep Lass: Tower of Ragigund comes as indie games in general have received growing support from the gaming community. One of the highly popular titles is Backpack Titles that focuses its gameplay around a player's inventory.

Despite its simplistic concept, it became an instant hit and has thousands of players connected on Steam. The game, which was developed by PlayWithFurcifer, features fighting against other players to see who has a better organized inventory, according to Ruetir.
