As the literal original royalty of gaming, there was never a doubt that Princesses Peach and Zelda would become friends, wasting away the day squabbling over being trapped in castles, and gossiping about that bikini-clad blonde bimbo behind her bounty hunting back.

They would bond through the years, getting to know each other, even go out on couples dates on occasion, grabbing drinks at Telma's Bar. Dry Dry Kingdom wasn't known for its wine selection. The two women would dominate the conversation, which was just as well. Mario's dalliance with numerous career paths kept his head swimming, and Link was always something of a quiet type, save for the occasional "hup" or "hyeah." The mustache's spaghetti slurping accent annoyed Zelda, but she did her best to tolerate it for Peach, but when the two were alone, she encouraged her to do better. "A princess and a plumber just won't do," she'd always say.

Peach heeded her friend's advice -- a fling with Booster there, an extra long "kidnapping" with Bowser there. Even with the sudden appearance of seven koopa kids and no Queen Bowser in sight, the plumber was none the wiser, oblivious all the while.

Peach was about ready to throw it all in, until she saw something different in her friend's longtime savior.

It would have small beginnings, with a stolen glance here or there, or maybe a subtle wink if one was feeling adventurous, which the Hero of Time most certainly is.

It would be returned with flirtatious giggle from Peach, who kept watch from afar while Link shattered endless clay pots, and chased cuccos.

There were signs. There were always signs that something was amiss. Hell, the plumber almost caught fairy boy with his pants down in Rosetown, but Peach was quick to parasol out the window before either of them woke up. The brazenness to act on their desire all while the plumber slept in the next bed just served to make it more wicked.

With a headful of bad mushrooms and another foray into racing, Mario had all but left Peach behind. She'd tag along on occassion, attend a party here and there, but she'd much rather "play the ocarina."

Meanwhile, Link's midnight "adventures" arose a suspicion in Zelda, who was growing more and more worrisome about Link's numerous late night visits to the Great Fairy. She even went so far as to try role-play, but only once or twice. The attempts were all in vain, as Link and Peach only grew more brazen. In time, Zelda would learn the truth.

It's never easy seeing something like that, even if it's what you suspected all along. A weaker woman would have crept away sliently, and cried herself to sleep. But this wasn't Zelda. But mental strength can't always compete with timing, and Zelda was too late to stop Peach from grabbing a handful of rupees.

Link froze with an expression combining equal parts dread, and the realization the pain that a dainty princess's tightly coiled hand can bring to a...call it a "bomb bag." Link possessed the talent to transform into a wolf, but it was at this moment he realized he was just a dog. But Peach on the other hand? One look at her face revealed everything one needed to see. With a sparkle in her eye and the most understated of smirks, this much was evident: Peach wanted to be caught the whole time...
