Get Crushed By A Mountain Of Skulls In This Lord Of The Rings Online Update

That's right, Lord of the Rings Online still exists, and enough people are playing it that it's getting updates on the reg. Today sees the launch of the Paths of the Dead, a new area in West Gondor.

Update 14 to the MMO based on Tolkien's epic fantasy trilogy will consist of increase of 5 in the level cap, bringing it up to 100. There will be, contrary to earlier reports, no second level cap increase this year, based on fan demand to be given some time to really break those new items in.

Three new questing areas and the city of Dol Amroth will be added, so you can all go visit Prince Imrahil the Swan Knight who was given quite a bit of inexplicable page time in The Return of the King. You're so weird sometimes, JRR. Sometime between update 14 and 15, the Dead Marshes will also launch as an interval session.

The fourth volume of the Epic Story will continue as well, with plenty of Fellowship opportunities. Still to come later this year: Central Gondor and Pelargir, two new areas fans of the books will no doubt be chomping at the bit for. The biggest upcoming thing is probably the new Beorning character class, which will be available from level 1 with its own starting area. Finally an MMO that allows me to be the bear I've always wanted to be!
