Venture Beat is citing sources that confirm the rumored two-phone launch from Apple for this September. The iPhones will comes in two different sizes--a 4.7-inch and a much larger 5.5-inch--and are expected to be unveiled at an event on Tuesday, September 9.

The launches will not be simultaneous according to the report, which syncs up with that we've heard about possible supply issues or delays. The smaller, standard model is expected to release first, around mid-September, while the other could come out anywhere from a week to a month later.

As far as the sapphire glass rumors go (which said the new iPhones' displays would use the super-durable material), VB's sources claim that the new devices will incorporate a material somewhere in between the toughness of Corning's Gorrilla Glass and sapphire glass. That conflicts with the long-running rumors of any sapphire glass use, but does line up with recent word that the material would not be reading in a large enough quantity for launch.

The phones will sport faster, 802.11ac Wi-Fi, as well as the new A8 processing chip. The new hardware, running at 2.0 Ghz per core compared to the iPhone 5's 1.3 Ghz, will improve speeds and graphics rendering capabilities. The iPhone will finally be getting an NFC chip as well, which allows mobile payments and other proximity-based interactions.

The fingerprint scanner in the current iPhone will still be included, and is getting upgrades to its speed and accuracy. Venture Beat's sources note that the features described were those present in the plans as it stands, but that capabilities have been removed in the past before final launch.
