Dragon Age Inquisition Co-op: How Is It Different From Mass Effect 3?

Get Personal With Your Dragon Age MP Avatars

After five years, Dragon Age will see its first multiplayer component in its third installment Dragon Age: Inquisition. This is not the first time developers BioWare pull this on a part of their fanbase, as the third part of the Mass Effect saga also (in)famously came with a chance to take the fight to the Reapers with your friends. So, will it be the same thing in the fight against the Demons from beyond the Veil? Not quite!

Dragon Age Inquisition Will Have Zombie Unicorn Mounts!

If you'll remember, Mass Effect 3 was all about collecting war assets. The final stand against the Reapers to protect the sentient races of the Milky Way against assimilation was dependent on how you fared in single player quests, and how many multiplayer characters you were able to level up and "retire", thus turning them into single player war assets. You didn't have to do multiplayer to max out your assets, but it certainly helped. A consequence of this was that you were essentially playing nobodies in multiplayer, just grunts who ended up tiny assets to a big war effort.

In Dragon Age: Inquisition, according to a PAX report from Joystiq, you will be actually playing the Inquisitor's lieutenants in the four-player co-op the game will be touting, handling stuff the Inquisitor's slightly too busy to take care of, such as taking down a castle of evil Templars. Progressing through the story will see you acquire more lieutenants with actual names and pre-set personalities.

Instead of waves like in ME3, you'll also have five zones before you come to the end boss. Loot will not be equippable until after the dungeon crawl, so that everything remains fast-paced and fun. The freemium currency is called platinum, whereas gold is the in-game money (a resource shared between party members).

Dragon Age: Inquisition will be available November 21, for PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
