The publisher today announced NHL 2K for iOS and Android, which will retail as a premium-priced mobile game at $7.99. The game is co-developed by Visual Concepts and Virtuos Games.

NHL 2K will feature a deep MyCareer mode alongside more one-off experiences including the Winter Classic, shootouts, and free skate. There is also a three-on-three minigame, as well as multiplayer in the form of turn-based shootouts. The developers will update the roster throughout the year as well, an important aspect of any sports title to most fans.

American and Anaheim Duck Ryan Kesler will be the cover athlete for the title,  which is set to launch "later this fall". NHL 2K will be sold on the App Store, Google Play, and the Amazon Appstore.

The 2K hockey series has been defunct for multiple years now, bowing out of the race against EA's NHL franchise. NHL 2K 11 was the last game in the series, and launched only on Wii and iOS. The release of the mobile title could hint at the franchise's return, but as of now, NHL 2K is the only game officially planned. Below is a look at the history of the series, provided by the publisher.
