Titanfall Update 8 Announced: Three New Game Modes Revealed, Ranked Play Goes Live Tomorrow

Titanfall Update 8 Is Adding A New Co-op Game Mode And Ranked Play

The Respawn team took to Twitch today to unveil the details about Titanfall's Update 8, which will be going live tomorrow.

The update, which Respawn was calling its "biggest update" over Twitter earlier today, includes a new co-op, humans vs. computer type of game mode and a new system for ranked play, among other things. The new co-op mode is called Frontier Defense, and it can be played on all of the game's maps. In this game mode, a team of four players defends a Harvester structure from waves of enemy forces controlled by the game's AI. The enemy's forces will include units that the player is familiar with as well as new kinds of units created for the update.

Two other new game modes were revealed during the Twitch stream, though neither of them will be ready to implement tomorrow. Marked for Death Pro is a new take on the game's existing Marked for Death mode. In the Pro variety, the round will end when either marked Pilot is taken down. There's little forgiveness for error, which puts the "Pro" in Marked for Death Pro. This mode will come online November 26.

Also added was a game mode called Deadly Ground, which is a grown-up way of saying that this mode lets you play The Floor Is Lava in Titanfall. In this game mode, offered only in select maps, the ground level is covered in electrified gas that kills Pilots within a few seconds if they linger long enough. Titans are killed more slowly by the gas, but they still take damage over time, changing the way that they're played. The game mode is meant to encourage Pilots to get better at wall-running and navigating over rooftops. This game mode will go live November 5.

In Update 8, ranked play will let players compete for top spots on the game's leaderboards in a tier system separate from the game's Generation prestige system. The rank system will reset on the first of every month, letting everyone have their shot at becoming the champ. Ranked play will start as a beta with Gen 10 players receiving automatic invites. Gen 10 players can also spread the love with their three invites per day.

The update contains much more than these additions, including changes to Capture The Flag, the in-game minimap and challenges. You can check out the full update notes here.
