Far Cry 4's Soundtrack Got A Little Help From A Rock And Roll Hall Of Famer

Far Cry 4's soundtrack will feature the work of a veteran film composer – and a Rock and Roll Hall of Famer to boot. Ubisoft confirmed that Cliff Martinez is a collaborator on the soundtrack for the upcoming shooter.

Film fans are probably already familiar with some of Martinez's work. As a composer, Martinez created the soundtracks to films like Drive, Spring Breakers and the HBO film The Normal Heart. The composer has also worked repeatedly with director Steven Soderbergh on several of his movies.

Rock fans might know Martinez best as an early drummer for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, with whom he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Martinez isn't completely new to video game music – he collaborated on the score of Spore back in 2008 – but Far Cry 4 will be his first full game soundtrack.

"It was an honor to be asked to write the music for the Far Cry 4 game as my first full-length video game soundtrack," Martinez said in a release. "It was exciting for me to be asked to take my usual minimalistic cinematic approach to the immersive game world."

"Bringing Cliff on board was a no-brainer. Collaborating with him was a dream. He has the remarkable ability to portray compelling emotions and elevate the mundane into extraordinary with his musical talent," said Tony Gronick, audio director for Far Cry 4. "Cliff delivered everything I hoped for."

Martinez collaborated on the game's soundtrack with several members of Ubisoft's own audio team. Far Cry 4 will release for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC on November 18.
