Super Smash Bros Wii U Pre-Purchase Available Now, Download The Game Ahead Of Release To Skip Waiting On Launch Day

Nintendo announced it is now offering pre-purchase for the upcoming Super Smash Bros on Wii U, which will also allow players to download much of the game before release.

Pre-download of course saves time on launch day, getting most of the waiting out of the way before release and putting players into the action sooner. The data will be downloaded after purchase if your Wii U is put in standby mode, and the last piece of content needed to unlock the full game will be added automatically when the game goes live on the eShop at midnight on November 21.

Those who aren't buying directly from the eShop aren't left out: Nintendo.com purchases come with the same offer through a different method. Within 72 hours of the game's release, emails with a download code will be sent out via your Nintendo ID. Buying a physical copy of the game will obviously circumvent these issues entirely, as those players don't need to download the bulk of the content regardless.

The Wii U and 3DS versions of Super Smash Bros are largely similar, mainly in the same offering of playable characters, but there are a variety of differences. Game modes are changed or added for the full-fledged Wii U version, and we've seen a series of exclusive stages announced as well. The 3DS edition launched in early October, and the Wii U version will be out November 21.
