iPhone 5 vs. Galaxy S3, Samsung Threatens Apple's Reign

Apple and Samsung are again likely to head straight  into stiff competition with speculations doing the rounds that they will launch their smartphones, iPhone 5 and Galaxy S3 around the same time, or maybe just a month apart.

Virtual battle has already begun with various online sites comparing and analysing which of the smartphone giants would come out victorious when it hits the market. In the battle of smartphones, Apple has continued it reign on the competition with their world famous iPhones.

Samsung remains at second place but with rising sales in their smartphones and mobile businesses, the South Korean company will look to capture the iPhones number one spot.  Samsung reported to have brought in $5 billion, but that is still only a third of Apple's total earnings.

According to Samsung, the release date of its smartphone, Galaxy S3 will be announced in May. Samsung's strategy has been consistently releasing their devices ahead of Apple's launch.  We may be seeing the same approach this time as the iPhone 5 is rumored for a June or October release.

There are possibilities of Apple's iPhone 5 to be released sometime in October or surprise their customers by releasing it in the annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) from June 11 to June 15 at San Francisco's Moscone West, though it was not mentioned in the press statement by Apple while announcing its conference dates.

Android powered  mobile devices have always been a strong rival and it ensures that Apple's products are keeping up with its technological advancement.  Samsung's Galaxy S3 pose as a major threat to  the iPhone 5 which is in the development pipeline.

If rumors are to be considered, iPhone 5 will come with a -3.5 inch screen featuring LTE '4G' networking speeds powered by a 1.5 GHz quadcore A6 processor. It is also predicted to have at least 1GB or RAM and groundbreaking retina display of 1280 x 720 resolution on a glass curved face will utilize edge-to-edge display

The Galaxy S3 is one of the most talked about Android phones this year. It has been designed with new energy-efficient chip exceeding 1.4GHz per core.

"Samsung's next Galaxy device, which will be officially announced soon, offers uncompromised performance and ground breaking multi-tasking features, thanks to Exynos 4 Quad's powerful performance and efficient energy management technology," Hankil Yoon, Senior Vice President of Product Strategy Team, Samsung's Mobile Communications Business said in a press statement.

Specs for Samsung's latest smartphone was leaked on a German Amazon webpage.  The information revealed that the phone has a 4.7 inch Super AMOLED touchscreen display, a 12-megapixel camera with autofocus, face detection and LED flash, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, and 16GB of internal memory, "expandable to 32GB."

According to the Korea Times, an anonymous Samsung executive said that the company will use its single-chip solutions for the Galaxy S3.

"The Exynos chip is currently built using a 45-nanometer process but the new Exynos chip will be made with 32-nanometer technology, giving better performance quality without using as much power," the report said.

Predecessors of the Galaxy S3 were widely popular.  The Samsung's Galaxy S and Galaxy S II were sold 30 million units and Samsung is expecting that its Galaxy S3 will be even more popular.

Samsung has been on the rise and Apple will look to offer something revolutionary if its iPhone 5 desires to remain atop the competition.  Whether Apple and Samsung announce the release date in May, October or in June they are heading for a launch around the same time and if not in the same year. Already battling with their smartphones, the companies will have to strategize in such a way that their loyal customers remain loyal and those who are heading to enter this fight choose their smartphone.
