Destiny Iron Banner Reforged Now Live Until November 24, Brings New Rules And 5 Ranks

Destiny's Iron Banner event has returned, this time promising to give high level players the advantage the game mode originally promised.

Total War: Attila's Next Faction Revealed

Normally in competitive multiplayer Crucible matches, Destiny equals out weapon damage and armor values across all characters, so high and low level players have an even playing field. Iron Banner intentionally does away with the equalizing, giving high-level players the ability to run rampant with superior weapons and armor.

Complaints about the first Iron Banner events said the changes weren't drastic enough, however, and the advantage wasn't particularly noticeable. This time, only players level 20 or higher can even lead a fire team into matchmaking--those below the minimum can join friends. The event page warns that low-level players with upgraded weapons are still a threat.

Halo: The Master Chief Collection Matchmaking Patch Delayed

Only winning a match gets you Rank and Standing, but losing isn't worthless. You will be given a medallion, which will give you a portion of a win's reward points upon your next victory--you can hold up to five of these at once. Like last time, Lord Saladin in The Tower will offers bounties to complete in matches, and gear to buy with your rewards. There are now five Ranks to progress through (your Rank from the previous event has carried over), which will unlock different weapons and shaders.

You can acquire legendary gear through the event, and reforge any Iron Banner weapons to select new upgrades from the first time you leveled up the weapon. Iron Banner begins today, and will run until November 24.
