Call of Duty: Heroes Released For iOS And Windows, F2P Clash of Clans-style Game Reunites Legendary Characters From Franchise

Clash of Duty? Call of Duty Gets Its Own F2P Strategy Title

Activision has announced that Call of Duty: Heroes is now available on the App Store and Windows Store for the low price of absolutely nothing. This game will bring back some of the series' most well-known and beloved heroes, too. Can you say Soap?

That's right, Soap MacTavish, Captain Price, Mike Harper and plenty of other famous characters from both the Modern Warfare and Black Ops II universes have joined together in this game.

This isn't a first-person shooter, however. This is a straight Clash of Clans-style base buider and attacker. You'll start with a tiny base and add sentry guns, SAM turrets, mines, and the like, building up an army in the meantime that you can send against your enemies and former friends.

Any doubts of what kind of game this was will be immediately quelled when you're asked to build a "Gold Miner" within minutes of your first game. Yes, there are resources to mine, and yes, there are timers oh and yes, you can use premium currency to speed things up.

So there's no real suprises- from our limited playtime it seems to do exactly what a hundred other games are doing right now, perhaps with a little more polish than most. The gimmick this time is of course the license, which allows them to utilize Call of Duty infantry and drones, including Juggernauts, Dragonfires and CLAWs. There are also the famed Heroes, which can be controlled individually during attacks on bases, as well as a few which can unleash some admittedly fun killstreaks that let you call in drone strikes or strafe the enemy base as a chopper gunner.

"Call of Duty: Heroes brings back these iconic characters from across the Call of Duty franchise to play once again in an all-new experience created for mobile players," said Jeremiah Maza, executive producer, in a release. "And it's all focused on the fun. There's nothing like calling in heavyweights like Capt. Price or Mike Harper and rolling into a new mission right from your phone or tablet."

It's freemium, so if you don't mind getting a few minutes of fun in-between timers (and there is nothing wrong with that!), there's no reason to not at least check it out. You can download it here for iOS- it's also on the Windows 8 Store and is coming soon for Google Play and Amazon.
