Samsung Galaxy S3 vs. Apple iPhone 5: Ultimate Smartphone Showdown

Samsung unveiled the highly anticipated Galaxy S III in London, giving excitement to Android fans with a hope that it could demolish Apple's next iPhone 5.

The faster and larger version of the flagship model of the South Korean Smartphone maker is hoping to "dent [Apple's] market share ahead of an expected new version of Apple's iPhone", according to the Wall Street Journal.

Rumors have been going on for months about the new Samsung Galaxy, and many of them were right on.

The device has a 4.8-inch HD Super AMOLED display with a 1,280 x 720 resolution, 8-megapixle rear camera, 1.9-megapixle front camera, HSPA+ connectivity, 2,100mAh battery, and the quad-core Exynos processor. Google's Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich will be its OS.

Perhaps the most noticeable change will be the screen size and the resolution. Compared to its predecessor and its 4.3-inch screen, S III certainly made an improvement. And it is a huge advantage over Apple's iPhone, whose latest phone had a screens size of 3.5 inch.

Although the camera comes with the same 8-megapixle as S II, new features are added, including "zero shutter lag," "select your best shot" with automatic suggestion, and taking picture while recording a video.

Only pebble blue and marble white color options are available for now, but the company said more versions will come later.

The biggest drawback will be the lack of 4G, but just wait till this summer and the LTE version of the Galaxy S III will be available.

Pricing information has not been announced yet, the president of Samsung mobile, J.K. Shin, has told the WSJ that it will be more expensive than its predecessor. Galaxy SII costs about $500 without a contract from AT&T.

Could the new Galaxy S III take on iPhone and lure Apple fans?

Neil Mawston, executive director at Strategy Analystcs says no way.

"The S III is an evolution but not a revolution," said Mawston, WSJ reported. "It's an improvement but it's not a game changer nor an iPhone killer."
