Do A Canopy Roll! In The New Video Tutorial For World Of Warplanes

Wargaming, purveyors of various free to play military titles, today announced a new series of tutorials for their airplane themed combat sim World of Warplanes. The series’ intends to give players a better understanding of the controls and other basic functions of the game, creating not only a more competitive experience, but a more rewarding one as well.

The first episode addresses the little used and perhaps slightly misunderstood Canopy Roll. Essentially, a canopy roll is the tighter version of the Barrel Roll. Where in the latter, you lazily turn about in a big arching circle hoping to elude any pesky plane that is targeting you, with a Canopy Roll you spin your aircraft in a much quicker and tighter circle to evade enemy fire.

There are three types of Canopy Rolls: horizontal, ascending and descending. The move is most effective for fighters, and while heavier planes can roll, their size and relative slowness make it a move of last resort for them.

Spinning into a Canopy Roll is easy. Using the default control settings with a WASD keyboard, click A (the roll left button) and then turn your mouse in a counter-clockwise direction. It is recommended you change up the direction often, as well as the speed. Players can adjust their pitch and yaw by controlling their rudder with the D, Z and C buttons.

For maximum effectiveness, make sure you are at least 500 meters away from your opponent. Anything closer, do half a canopy roll.

While it lacks the timelessness and lyricism of ‘Do a barrel roll!’ from the Starfox games, one should be able to wield all the tools in one’s box effectively. Check out the video below for more details.
