The Walking Dead Spoilers: Showrunner Scott Gimple Confirms Rick’s Turn, Hints At Divergence From Source Material

The Walking Dead Will Move Away From the Comic

There is an insane fan theory about Rick going around from The Walking Dead. The once lawful good man has slowly and steadily been slipping into neutral and some would say downright lawful evil territory. Showrunner Scott M. Gimple has confirmed that Rick is most assuredly heading in a darker direction.

Crazy Fan Theory Points to Rick for the Next Big Bad in The Walking Dead

Design and Trend points out that Gimple has commented on the character's dark turn. As discussed earlier, Rick has been making some very cutthroat choices. Gimple hints that the recent debacle with Beth will prompt Rick to start erring on the side of violence in the future to keep his people safe.

Speaking of people, in the past few seasons we've seen a divide in Team Rick. Not everyone agrees with his choices, violent or not so much. This of course caused drama between survivors. The upcoming episodes, this will be less so according to Gimple. Why is this important? Because an unitied Team Rick is a dangerous Team Rick.

The Driving Dead is the Only PSA You Can Seriously Watch

The most important revelation in the interview with Gimple however was that the series may break away from the comic. Obviously, there have already been small changes as is what happens with any adaptation to make it work better for a different medium. It seems that these will a bit more than cosmetic.

Gimple stated that they were "playing with time and remixing things" which may cause the comic and the show to go their separate ways. So far we've been finding the big points between the two to predict what would happen, it seems that in the coming episodes, that system will start to break down.

The Walking Dead returns in February.
