Preorder The Resident Evil HD Remake And Receive PS3/PS4 Cross Play Functionality And Exclusive Theme Next Month

Got A PS3? Got A PS4? If You Preorder The HD Resident Evil You Can Play It On Both! Crossplay Announced

In what is surely an after-Christmas miracle, Capcom is offering a very special treat for players who order the upcoming Resident Evil HD remastered version.

Hey Big Chicken. What A Lovely Hat You Have, Solid Snake

Pre-order the game that started it all by January 20 and you will receive both PS4 and PS3 versions. Yes, that’s right: cross-play is fully functional for the game. The pre-order is available via the PSN for $19.99. The game itself will take up 15 gigs, but naturally with these things, block off 20 just in case there’s the inevitable “day one patch”.

The game turned 18 this past March and as such, decided to give itself a complete makeover. The original 1996 classic introduced the world to Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, the villainous Umbrella corporation and the mutagenic T-virus. And lots and lots of zombies. Though the action could at times be clunky, Shinji Mikami’s opus was never short on scares. In fact, the somewhat antiquated controls made it all the scarier.

This is not the first time Resident Evil has been remade, either. In 2002, a Gamecube version was released with improved graphics and gameplay. The upcoming remaster uses the previous release as a basis and further enhances the game, adding 1080p support and 5.1 surround sound.

According to one Capcom employee, "You also get an exclusive theme, and yep--they're pre-load supported so you can start playing as soon as the game is officially "out."

Resident Evil set the bar for survival horror, and though later entries into the series strayed more into action territory (with some degree of success), the RE franchise will forever be known as one to scare the hell out of you. Let’s hope a new audience can find news way to be terrified next month when the HD remaster hits the PSN.
