Star Trek 3 News: Simon Pegg Signs On To Co-Write Script For New Movie

Simon Pegg Will Be Writing The Next Star Trek

Star Trek 3 is in the works, and it just got a famous writer. Simon Pegg will be taking up the helm of co-writer on the new movie.

Pegg will be co-writing the script with Doug Jung, reports Deadline. This isn't the first time that Pegg has placed his writing chops on display, as he also co-wrote the Edgar Wright's Cornetto trilogy which consisted of Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and The World's End, as well as the standalone Run Fatboy Run.

Those movies were startlingly different from the Star Trek franchise, which has its own history and fandom already built in (and Lord help you if you upset the fandom) but he's no stranger to the universe.

Leaked Script For The Walking Dead Spinoff Reveals Plot and Setting

Pegg plays Scotty, the best engineer in science fiction. He played the famous role for the past two films and will be reprising it for the third. Of course, now that he's in charge of writing that role, I'm sure we'll see a bit more engineering magic in the coming film than we have before.

Or would that be a conflict of interest? No, it's probably fine.

The new film has not begun shooting yet but once the script details are worked out the rest of production should step up. Right now the movie is rumored to be coming out sometime in 2016 but this seems unlikely as the script isn't even done yet.

New information will be shared as we get it.
