Fossil Fighters Frontier Release Date: 3DS Creature Collection And Battle Game Coming March 20

3DS Creature Collection & Battle Game 'Fossil Fighters: Frontier' Coming March 20

Fossil Fighters: Frontier is coming to 3DS on March 20, the first entry in the franchise to appear on the system.

Destiny Player Speedruns Crota's End By Himself In Just 16 Minutes

The series began on DS with the launch of Fossil Fighters in 2008, followed by the release of Fossil Fighters: Champions in 2010 (also on DS). In Frontier, players can hop into customizable vehicles and travel the 3D world to excavate fossils. These can be revived and turned into Vivosaurs, the powerful dinosaur-like creatures you then collect and battle.

That of course invokes the concept of Pokemon, which isn't far off base--the battles are also turn based. Friends can explore together, excavate together, and fight in battles that support up to six players.

"Video game fans are about to get an adventure of prehistoric proportions," said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America's executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. "Between Fossil Fighters: Frontier, Code Name: S.T.E.A.M. and the upcoming Puzzle & Dragons Z + Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition games, it's a great time to be a Nintendo 3DS owner."

Players use the Bone Buggy vehicle to explore and subsequently revive fossils using the touch screen. Upgradeable tools are used in that process, and dig sites will offer additional mini-games for bonuses. All vivosaurs fall into one of five elemental categories--Water, Fire, Air, Earth and Neutral--which of course have pros and cons in battle. There arestory battles, daily events, and Street Pass battles to engage in. Fossil Fighters: Frontier will be available in stores and on the eShop March 20 for $29.99.
