'Nihilumbra' Wii U Release Date Revealed, New Version To Offer Co-Op Mode

Originally planned for a March release date, BeautiFun Games has revealed that the Wii U port of their hit game Nihilumbra has been finally approved, and will be releasing in the Nintendo eShop on May 14.

Affordable Space Adventures Review: Limbo In Space?

In Nihilumbra you play as Born, a creature who is attempting to escape from the Void, bringing color to the world as he does so. It's a truly visually stunning game in the vein of puzzle platformers like Limbo, and was a huge hit on iOS before migrating to PC/Mac/Linux and PS Vita.

If you haven't played any of those, this version might have been worth the wait, as it features a brand new co-op mode that isn't available on any other platform. That's entirely due to the Wii U Gamepad, which allows another player to interact with the world as the brush and the colors, using the touchscreen.

Co-op obviously changes the feel of the game and they admit as such in the press release- "So now it’s up to you to enjoy Nihilumbra as a deep voyage full of personal growth and introspection or as a funny co-op experience that will challenge you to coordinate with a friend and that will remind you that no one is alone against the Void! So... which one will be?"

Nihilumbra will hit the American and European Wii U eShops on May 14th for $9.99/€8.99, and will be 20% off until May 28. The Japanese release date is still yet to be determined. For more on the game check out the official site!
