Christopher Nolan Done With Batman, Says No to Justice League Movie

Filmmaker Christopher Nolan has said before that the upcoming "Dark Knight Rises" would be his last foray into the legacy of the Batman, and he wasn't kidding. Filmmaker Christopher Nolan recently squashed any rumor of possible involvement into another chapter for Gotham's famed vigilante, including a Justice League movie.

The rumors of Nolan's involvement started when it was revealed that Nolan took on the role of producer for the Superman re-launch, "Man of Steel." However, Nolan has said, "We've had our say on the character...I've got no plans to do anything more, and certainly, no involvement with any 'Justice League' project....We're finished with all we're doing with Batman. This is the end of our take on this character..."

This is nothing new for Nolan. He's been against the idea of his incarnation of Batman in a Justice League movie since 2008. In an interview with the LA Times, Nolan said, "I don't think our Batman, our Gotham, lends itself to that kind of cross-fertilization. It goes back to one of the first things we wrangled with when we first started putting the story together: Is this a world in which comic books already exist? Is this a world in which superheroes already exist? If you think of "Batman Begins" and you think of the philosophy of this character trying to reinvent himself as a symbol, we took the position -- we didn't address it directly in the film, but we did take the position philosophically -- that superheroes simply don't exist. If they did, if Bruce knew of Superman or even of comic books, then that's a completely different decision that he's making when he puts on a costume in an attempt to become a symbol. It's a paradox and a conundrum, but what we did is go back to the very original concept and idea of the character. In his first appearances, he invents himself as a totally original creation."

Christian Bale feels the same way. After his third time under the mask, Bale is set to hang up the cowl. "I wrapped a few days ago so that will be the last time I'm taking that cowl off," he told the Philippine Daily Inquirer. "I believe that the whole production wrapped yesterday, so it's all done. Everything's finished. It's me and Chris - that will be the end of that Batman era."

So who's filling in Bale's bat-boots should the Justice League make its way to the big screen? When the film was originally pitched right around the time of the writer's strike in 2008, George Miller was at the helm of a Justice League script, featuring the likes of (according to aintitcoolnews.com) Adam Brody as The Flash, Megan Gale as Wonder Woman, D.J. Cotrona as the proverbial man of steel, rapper Common as Green Lantern (probably not Kyle Rayner), Santiago Cabrera as Aquaman, Hugh Keays as Martian Manhunter, and Armie Hammer to play the Dark Knight.

But according to rumors of late, Warner Bros. Studios has their sights set on Ryan Reynolds. Said Barry Meyer, CEO of Warner Bros., "We loved the work that Ryan did for us on Green Lantern and we feel that he's the right man to lead the Batman franchise. He's an extremely talented individual and we hope that fans will embrace him as the new Batman."
