'World of Warcraft: Legion' Release Date, Expansion, Trailer & Update: Demon Hunter Hands-On

"World of Warcraft" has been running for so long (12 years, in fact) that any new meaningful addition to the game—by that we mean new classes, not just new areas, enemies, weapons, and features—is a godsend.

It was fun when Death Knights first came around in "Wrath of the Lich King," the Worgen and Goblins were added in "Cataclysm," and the Pandaren and Monks followed in "Mists of Pandaria." Now, in "World of Warcraft: Legion," they get to be the infamous, badass Demon Hunter as well.

First introduced in "Warcraft III," the Demon Hunters of "World of Warcraft: Legion" follow the same mold—only elves (Night Elves for the Alliance and Blood Elves for the Horde) can take on the class, after consuming a demon's heart. Gamereactor reports that as with the Death Knight, players starting a new Demon Hunter character will be beginning in a class-specific zone (Mardum) at level 98, as Illidari, Illidan Stormrage's elite bodyguards. Once a Demon Hunter reaches level 100, they can leave Mardum, only to be imprisoned by the outside world for being as dangerous as a demon. However, when the Burning Legion begins their invasion, you are released to help stop it. That's where "World of Warcraft: Legion" begins.

Of course, the badass job class needs badass features, and "World of Warcraft" certainly never fails to deliver there. Demon Hunters can either take on the role of DPS (damage per second, through the Havoc specialization) or tanks (through the Vengeance specialization) and use abilities by using up Fury, like a Warrior does. Demon Hunters also use warglaives (Illidan's iconic weapon), fist weapons, daggers, and one-handed maces and swords, wear cloth and leather gear, and a class-exclusive mount (a special kind of Saber, like Night Elves ride).

The Demon aspect also doesn't disappoint—"World of Warcraft: Legion" allows Demon Hunters to turn into actual Demons (an ability that will be taken away from Warlock players), and they can fly by making use of the built-in demon wings (just press the spacebar twice to activate).  "World of Warcraft: Legion"'s new features don't stop there; on top of other gameplay changes, the new Transmogrify 2.0 engine makes a debut, allowing players to thoroughly customize the look of their armor. It's still in beta according to Blizzard, but it's doing pretty well.

"World of Warcraft: Legion" comes out on August 30, 2016.
