Cover for Injustice: Gods Among Us Shows Two New Characters

After the announcement that Green Arrow was joining Injustice: Gods Among Us, and some rather cryptic tweets from NeatherRealm Studios' head Ed Boon hinting at the next to-be-announced characters, the box art for Injustice seems to confirm that both the Joker and Green Lantern are joining the ranks of the next DC fighter.

Both Green Lantern and the Joker were seen in the last DC fighter, Mortal Kombat VS DCU.

A former test pilot, the Green Lantern Hal Jordan is a member of the Green Lantern Corps, a self-appointed intergalactic space corps that oversees order in the known universe. Like Batman, Green Lantern is human with no powers of his own, only gaining incredible ability through an alien ring which brings his thoughts into existence. Unlike Batman, he lacks the ability to make a decent showing at the box office. Another member of the Justice League, Lantern joins fellow Leaugers like Green Arrow, Batman, Superman, the Flash, Cyborg, Batman, and Wonder Woman.

Also playable will be Catwoman, Harley Quinn, Nightwing, and Solomon Grundy.

As for the Joker, the clown prince of crime has been the main adversary of Batman since Bob Kane put pen to paper in 1940, and dare I say, that any game that has Batman just wouldn't be the same without the Joker.

The Joker's addition puts him alongside girlfriend Harley Quinn and Solomon Grundy on the villain side for Injustice (you could argue Catwoman as a villain too, but that's a whole other article).

Given Joker's inclusion, it would be possible to see the adversaries of other characters to make an appearance as well. Lex Luthor or Doomsday for Superman, Captain Cold of Zoom Zolomon for the Flash, etc.

Counting Nightwing, the inclusion of Green Lantern and the Joker bring Inustice's total roster to 13, which means there's still quite a few characters left to be announced. There's still quite a few characters yet to be announced. According to the game's presentation at this year's EVO, there will be at least 24 playable characters and 15 arenas. Boon does plan on introducing a few characters you might not expect. "With Mortal Kombat, we brought in crazy guests like Freddy Krueger. So we'll definitely want to introduce unexpected characters [via DLC] to Injustice. That'll be our strategy. It's comparable to Mortal Kombat, but being really aggressive with our DLC characters."

For anyone attending Comic Con in New York City this weekend, both Green Arrow and Catwoman will be playable for the first time.

Injustice: Gods Among Us will be released in April 2013 for Xbox 360, PS3, and Nintendo's Wii U. A collector's edition was recently announced, and a comic book is in the works.
