PS4 Neo Release Date & Latest News: Sony Not Coming To Gamescom, Tokyo Game Show 2016; What's In The Future For The Console?

Fans will learn more about the PS4 Neo at the official announcement by Sony in September 2016. Sony introduced the upgraded PlayStation 4 before E3 2016, but it will not make an appearance at two major shows, namely the Tokyo Game Show (TGS) and Gamescom. Sony may be waiting for the right opportunity to showcase the PS4 Neo.

Gamescom is scheduled later in August 2016 while the Tokyo Game Show will happen on Sept. 17, 2016, but fans should wait longer to get news about the PS4 Neo. There are rumors that Sony might hint some details about the PS4 Neo at either or both events, and that the big announcement will be on September 7. Sony previously stated that they were developing an upgraded PlayStation 4 but did not indicate if it will be the PS4 Neo. The device is said to be more powerful than the standard current-generation console, but will not serve as a replacement. All future games will most likely be playable on both the PlayStation 4 and its upgraded version, scheduled to arrive later in 2017.

The Bitbag revealed that some fans speculate that the PS4 Neo and Scorpio by Microsoft were developed after news of the Nintendo NX surfaced, said to be a combination of a handheld device and console. After the new console of its rival company was confirmed, Sony and Microsoft may have proceeded with their own device upgrades to compete.

ThisGenGaming reported that Andrew House, President of Sony Interactive Entertainment, confirmed that the upgraded PlayStation 4 will be aimed towards hardcore gamers and users who own a 4K TV. The current PlayStation 4 and PS4 Neo will be sold together throughout the lifecycle, offering the best video gaming resolution to players. According to House, the PS4 Neo will be more expensive than the standard PS4, which is currently priced at $350.

Sony may be preparing its list of game titles that focus on the power of the PS4 Neo. There are talks that "Horizon: Zero Dawn," which is exclusive to the PlayStation 4, will be one of the games to fully utilize the PS4 Neo. Both the game and upgraded PS4 may launch together sometime in 2017.
