Canon 5D Mark IV Latest News & Update: New Model Supports 4K Video, Arriving in September

For photographers who rely heavily on Canon's line of products, you would be happy to know that the upcoming Canon 5D Mark IV is upping the game in terms of hardware. The new release, which is arriving in September, will feature advanced resolution and will support 4K video, making it one powerful camera.

According to PCMag, the upcoming Canon 5D Mark IV is equipped with a 30.4-megapixel sensor resolution, a major bump up from the previous 22 megapixels. It is also equipped with the Dual Pixel AF for Live View Shooting so that photographers and videographers can utilize a camcorder-like autofocus as they move around to shoot a video. This is the same Dual Pixel CMOS AF found in Canon's 7D Mark II and 80D models.

The latest generation Canon 5D Mark IV reportedly has amazing video capture capabilities as well. It is equipped with a 4K DCI capture of 30fps and 1080p, which can go up to 60fps. Moreover, the Mark IV can also perform clean recording for 1080p video, but note that this is only for HDMI and not 4K. It is also powered by the Digic 6+ processor.

Meanwhile, Engadget reports that Canon has indeed listened to users who have requested for GPS capabilities. The Canon 5D Mark IV will have the GPS, as well as the capability to use both CompactFlash and SD cards. For photographers who are in on the action, you're going to love that the new iteration will also feature improved weather resistance, whether it's against water or dust.

We recently reported that the Canon 5D Mark IV may be sacrificing picture quality thanks to its 30-megapixel sensor. Critics and fans are concerned that this might not be able to support the high quality photographs. This type of sensor must crop the middle 4,000 pixel or pixel-bin the image to 4K resolution in real time. The problem with pixel-binning, however, is that there will be setbacks in terms of quality.

Canon 5D Mark IV is set to arrive early next month with a price tag of $4,399 (for the kit with EF24-70mm f/4L lens), and $4,599 (for the kit with EF24-105mm f/4L IS II USM lens). The latter which arrives in the latter part of October.
