The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is one of the top games of 2011. However, it is not worth all the praise it has been getting and is truly one overrated experience. The only thing Skyrim seems to have is great graphics, and honestly, nothing else.
Don't get me wrong. Skyrim is a good game. A good game for the first few hours and then after that the whole experience just reminds me how much better other games are. I don't want to come off as a hater of Skyrim. I'm a huge fan of the Elder Scroll franchise. However, Skyrim failed to bring anything new and exciting apart from the Dragon battles, and the excitement in those battles only lasted for so long.
The main problem I found with Skyrim, was the combat. After playing Demon Souls, there was no way Skyrim's dated combat could give me the thrill I desired from an RPG. Whenever a sword connects with a shield, it doesn't give off that feeling of two huge metal things crashing into each other, it just feels odd and lifeless. And don't get me started on the death animations, when will game developers get rid of ragdoll physics? Take for example a Dragon grabbing a person or a giant into the air and letting them go, look at the animation, there's nothing going on. Guys should be screaming and moving about, but not so, in Skyrim, it's all lifeless.
Another thing wrong with Skyrim is the lack of pace and arrangement. There are so many things to do in the game that the player will end up going off course from a particular quest a million times over. Over time, Skyrim becomes one big confusing mess that takes a long time to fix.
How about having your character go toe to toe with Dragon, but for some reason a Giant can kill you with one hit? Wait a minute, aren't Dragons the main attraction in Skyrim? So how come a simple Giant can kill a Dragon in one-o-one combat every single time? What's up with that? Personally, I believe no matter how much a player levels up, Dragon battles should always be a challenge.
I will no doubt get a million disagrees here by folks who are unable to see past what Skyrim really is, but that doesn't matter. Skyrim is vastly overrated and that's the end of it. Period.
