'Lost Planet 3' Release Date Frozen on June 25 [UPDATE]

"Lost Planet 3" will hit stores on June 25 in North America and June 28 in Europe, according to publisher Capcom.

Until this point, "Lost Planet 3" was slated for an "early 2013" release, so technically the release date constitutes a delay. Then again, the game would have needed to come out on Tuesday to hit that mark.

Despite the three in the title, "Lost Planet 3" is actually a prequel to the original sci-fi monster hunter. As you'd expect from a game that takes the time to call itself a prequel, narrative will get a fair amount attention this time around, focusing on the story of Jim Peyton, a "utility rig" operator who gets attacked and stranded on the series' icy home, the planet EDN III.

According to IGN, Capcom has also detailed a set of retailer-specific pre-order bonuses for players looking to lock down their copy of the game early. All three seperate bonus packs include some combination of in-game items and upgrades. None of them include any physical stuff:

Putting money down at GameStop nets players the "Freedom Fighter Pack," which includes five unique multiplayer characters and two rig upgrades. Best Buy pre-orderees get three unique weapons and two rig upgrades in the "Assault Pack." Lastly, the Amazon-faithful can pick up the "Punisher Pack," which includes three unique weapons and two rig upgrades.

UPDATE: Capcom also released a new trailer teasing a "dangerous secret" that may be the centerpiece of the "Lost Planet 3" story.
