Sony Bringing PlayStation Games to Smartphones in 2018; Massive Announcement to Be Made Soon?

If reports are to be believed, Sony will be introducing mobile apps to support its console lineup. As a first step into this strategy, it will be launching smartphone games for the first time in 2018.

As told to Financial Times by Sony Corporation CEO Kazuo Hirai, the company is looking to get aggressively into mobile and its move will be reportedly different from other companies such as Nintendo that received massive success with its game "Pokemon GO."

According to brief shared by Reuters, Sony is planning to ready five or more smartphone games that could be released in late March 2018, specifically targeting Japan and other parts of Asia. Based on the PlayStation series, Sony Interactive Entertainment will be creating new offerings and its mobile game wing ForwardWorks will be handling the distribution.

There is more good news. Sony will also be reviving its older games that are currently unplayable on latest hardware. These old games will also receive console support. The games that are currently in development stage could be announced by year end.

If these are really carried out by Sony, players will be drawn towards mobile games now associated with consoles. The company will be able to capitalize on this and attract a massive group of users towards its consoles, said a statement shared by a Twitter user.

Sony hasn't yet revealed details about the smartphone games it will launch in 2018. It is possible that games on PS3 and PS Vita could be announced as Sony's first mobile games. Sony may make this important announcement regarding the games during the Sony PlayStation Experience 2016.

As per The Guardian, the PlayStation 4 is leading the console segment with over 40 million sales. In 2012, Sony tried to bring the PS brand to mobile phones but the effort bombed unfortunately.
