'Phantom Pain' Secondhand Screenshots Show Fox Engine in Action

Moby Dick Studios chief Joakim Morgen is not an actual human being, but at least his video game seems real. Maybe.

Morgen spoke with Geoff Keighley on last night's GameTrailers TV and, while the interview wasn't especially substansial, it confirmed what many have assumed since the game was first unveiled last year: "Moby Dick Studios" isn't real, and "The Phantom Pain" will most likely turn out to be "Metal Gear Solid 5."

The uncooperative Joakim, whose name is an anagram for "Kojima," wore gauze over his face similar to the bandages worn by the main character of "The Phantom Pain" and refused to tell Keighley anything about the game, except that it's "a combination of 'Half Life,' 'Borderlands 2,' 'Angry Birds,'and 'Faerie Solitaire.'" Because that totally doesn't sound like a fake game.

Pulled from last night's show by Kotaku, these screenshots show stills of those key moments from the reveal trailer: That guy who looks like Solid Snake, but with an eyepatch. The giant flaming whale in the sky. You know, the important stuff. While there are still no direct connections between "Metal Gear Solid" creator Hideo Kojima and "The Phantom Pain," multiple images from the interview feature a logo for the "Fox Engine," Kojima Productions' next-gen developer tools.

Little by little, by bandages will come off and the charade will reveal "The Phantom Pain" for whatever it is.
