'Medici: Masters of Florence' Air Date, News & Updates: Series Gets Quite The Premiere With Dustin Hoffman & Richard Madden Leading

If you miss Robb Stark and wish he was in a "Game of Thrones"-like environment again, then this new series is for you to watch. "Medici: Masters of Florence" brings back the fan favorite Richard Madden back to cable television and does viewers one better: it pairs him up with Academy Award winner and legendary actor Dustin Hoffman.

In "Medici: Masters of Florence," Hoffman plays infamous historical Florentine patriarch and oligarch Giovanni de Medici, whom the series focuses on during the Renaissance period. Meanwhile, Madden plays his son Cosimo de Medici, a role he seems to be truly fascinated with. Madden claims to be "almost obsessed with Italy," he shared in an interview for the Italian version of Vanity Fair.

This won't be the first time the Medici family would be played on television. Before "Medici: Masters of Florence," they were portrayed in another historical drama, "Da Vinci's Demons," focusing on a young, fictionalized version of inventor and artist Leonardo da Vinci.

Much like that series, "Medici: Masters of Florence" will be featuring a highly Britishized version of the Italian Medici family, to some annoyance. The Medici family earned a lot of intrigue in their time for their contributions to Florentine, Italian, and European society, namely their ways in banking and their patronage of many great artists, according to The Guardian.

"Medici: Masters of Florence" premiered in, where else, Florence's Palazzo Vecchio last Friday, October 14. The eight-episode series, produced by American duo Frank Spotnitz and Nicholas Meyer. It will be airing exclusively on Italian network RAI's 4K channel.

However, only those with Tivusat in Italy and with 4K TV setups will be able to watch the show, and as well as RAI 1 for those who don't have 4K TVs. It's unclear as to which network will be the ones to show the series in the U.S. and Europe as of yet.
