Sony Releases Xperia SP and Xperia L Smartphones

Sony is finally showing off its much-rumored middleweights with the release of a pair of new Android smartphones, the Xperia SP and Xperia L. These mid-range smartphones were expected to make an appearance at the Mobile World Congress, but failed to show up at the event.

The Xperia SP comes with a 4.6-inch display with a 720p-screen powered by Sony's Bravia Mobile Engine 2. The device features an aluminum frame, uses on-screen keys, has a stylized metal power button and a customizable light bar down below. The light bar enables users to change colors and customize certain features such as incoming call and text notifications, email and more.  Xperia SP is powered by a dual-core 1.7GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8960 Pro chipset with an 8MP Exmor RS camera in addition to NFC and LTE connectivity. The handset is available in white, red and black color variations. The device comes with a 2,370mAh battery and runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

Sony's other budget Android device, Xperia L features a smaller 4.3-inch FWVGA display and is powered by Qualcomm's dual-core 1GHz Snapdragon S4 processor. A notable feature on the device is the camera, an 8-megapixel camera with HDR support equipped with Sony's flagship Exmor RS for mobile technology. The device offers 8GB of internal storage which can be expanded with a microSD card slot and comes with a 1,750mAh battery and it runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean out of the box. Xperia L will also be available in white, red and black.

Both, Xperia SP and Xperia L will be released sometime in the second quarter of this year.
