Zynga.com Will No Longer Require Facebook Log-In

Without Facebook, will there be a Zynga?

That's the question the company will start to answer next week when it will no longer require a Facebook log-in to play games on Zynga.com. Facebook credentials will still work, they just won't be neccessary. As Cadir Lee put it in a Zynga blog post:

Starting next week, when you visit Zynga.com you will see a new streamlined signup that lets you create your own account just for playing games. We also wanted to make sure that existing Zynga.com players continue to have the best experience possible so you don’t have to start from scratch. All players will have the option to connect with Facebook and keep your game friends and game progress, while deciding what you share with your gaming community.

Zynga rose to prominence on Facebook with games, and the spam that game with them, like "Farmville" and "Mafia Wars." Facebook eventually changed its developer policies so that games could no longer post to user's newsfeeds. Today Zynga is in the real-money poker business in addition to putting out games like "Words With Friends" and "Lucky Play."
