Xbox Live ‘Play to Earn’ Scheme Starting April 1: What Is It All About?

Microsoft is reportedly set to launch an entirely new program that aims to reward its loyal fans for being devoted (and spending big) on Xbox Live Arcade starting April 1, similar to what Microsoft's search engine, Bing, already offers.

The incentive scheme, known as ‘MyPunchcard,’ awards players with in-game avatar items or MS points for playing and purchasing Arcade games from Xbox Live. Unsurprisingly, the more you spend, the more you get.

Here are some of the ways players can earn these rewards:

  • Playing any combination of arcade games for over 20 hours nets a free avatar item.
  • Purchasing any four Arcade games at 400 Microsoft Points or more from Xbox Live will get you a free one month Gold membership to Xbox Live.
  • Spending over 3200 MS Points on Arcade games will get you 800 MS Points in return.

Keep in mind that these rewards are only for Xbox Live Gold members.

Major Nelson also says that those gamers who manage to pull off all the above three criteria over the month of April will earn a place in the list of "VIP Exclusives." What the benefits of that status are remain unclear.

Here is the list of games arriving on Xbox Live this April:

  • BattleBlock Theater
  • Double Dragon II
  • Motocross Madness
  • Sacred Citadel
  • God Mode
  • Monaco
