'A Series Of Unfortunate Events' Release Date, Spoilers, News & Update: Neil Patrick Harris Teases As Count Olaf; Distinct From Jim Carry?

Netflix's "A Series of Unfortunate Events" just released their first footage of Neil Patrick Harris as the villainous role of Count Olaf. The 43-year-old actor tweeted the latest trailer to his 33.2m followers with caption, "Time has come to meet the incredibly handsome Count Olaf".

The preview of "A Series of Unfortunate Events" only featured Olaf on screen with the voice over of Patrick Warburton as the series author Lemony Snicket. According to IGN, Netflix has also released never before seen images of Neil Patrick Harris as Olaf together with the trailer.

Count Olaf's character in "A Series of Unfortunate Events" is the evil guardian of the Baudelaire children, Violet, Sunny and Klaus. Olaf is after the Baudelaire children's fortune after their parents died in a mysterious accident.

Netflix released the first teaser of "A Series of Unfortunate Events" in October where Warburton as Lemony Snicket, narrates the introduction to the series. CNet reported that a mysterious and creepy teaser was released during summer but many believed that it was a fan-made teaser.

In 2004, "A Series of Unfortunate Events" was a big-screen movie that starred Jim Carry as Count Olaf which gained over $213 million in the box office. However, the "How I Met Your Mother" alum Harris, made sure that he will bring his own version of the sinister menace to the series.

Aside from Patrick Warburton and Neil Patrick Harris, Netflix's "A Series of Unfortunate Events" also stars Joan Cusack as Justice Strauss. The Baudelaire siblings will be played by Malina Weissman as Violet and Louis Hynes as Klaus.

The debut of the first season of "A Series of Unfortunate Events" will start streaming on Netflix on January 13, 2017 with eight episodes. The TV series is developed by Paramount TV and the novel series is written by Daniel Handler. Netflix's live-action adaptation of "A Series of Unfortunate Events" will be directed by Barry Sonnenfeld.
